Waist-Hip Ratio and Buttock Enhancement: A Psychological Study

The Waist-Hip ratio (WHR) is an objective measurement of fat distribution in the iStock_000011445587XSmalllower body.  In past studies of WHR, doctors examined its correlations with reproductive age, fertility, health, and perceptions of female attractiveness.

A study from 2009 (recently published online) examines this latter category by analyzing pre and post-operative photographs from patients who underwent liposuction and fat transplantation into the buttocks – a procedure known as the Brazilian Butt Lift.

To analyze perceptions of female attractiveness, male and female subjects from four different geographical areas (or societies) were asked to complete a questionnaire referencing 20 before and after photos of patients who had undergone enhancement with the Brazilian Butt Lift.  In all post-operative photographs, patients showed a reduced Waist-to-Hip ratio without a significant change in body mass index.

“All four populations tested judged postoperative photographs to be significantly more attractive,” wrote authors of the study.

What’s interesting about these results is not simply that post-operative photographs were judged as more attractive; it’s the cross-cultural element, which lends objectiveness to the entire process.  A similar preference for low Waist-Hip ratio was demonstrated, regardless of the ethnic and socioeconomic differences present in the study participants.

Saline Implants Protected Her During Shooting

Coming out of LA last week was a dramatic story of workplace violence that left one implants_dallaswoman dead and another with scars and deflated breast implants.  Lydia Carranza’s surgeon is now hoping her survival story will elicit a supply contribution from implant manufacturers, to offset the cost of her reconstructive surgery.

When a man opened fire in the dental office where Lydia worked last summer, she was shot twice: “The bullet fragments were millimeters from her heart and her vital organs,” said Dr. Ashkan Ghavami.

According to a firearms expert interviewed for the story, what saved Lydia’s life may have been the presence of her saline breast implants.  Of course he advises against getting “breast enhancements as a means to deflect a possible incoming bullet.”

Breast Reduction Surgery

In many cases, breast reduction is covered by medical insurance. With medical insurance covering the procedure, you can receive a breast reduction and enjoy the day-to-day tasks of life. Allow BodEvolve to assist you in getting the medical attention you need for improved quality of life without the stress of financial burden.

Breast reduction is necessary when it begins to affect an individual’s livelihood due to back aches and other pains. The physical and emotional pain of having exceptionally large breasts can significantly affect many facets of a woman’s life. Aside from physical and emotional pain, excess breast tissue can inhibit an active lifestyle and limit physical activity. Excess weight of the breasts can cause back pain, neck pain, and other bothersome conditions like skin rashes or irritation from the bra strap pressing into the skin.

Breast reduction surgery carefully removes excess breast fat while also providing a more natural shape in proportion to your body. Patients who undergo a reduction procedure typically experience relief from the common problems associated with having exceptionally large and heavy breasts.

Breast Reduction Procedures

In a traditional breast reduction procedure, excess breast tissue is removed through an incision around the areola that extends down toward the lower crease of the breasts. Liposuction may be used to remove excess tissue and sculpt the breast shape.  In many cases, a breast lift may be recommended to bring the breasts to an attractive position.

The correct procedure will be performed according to your condition, surgeon’s counsel, personal goals, and the amount of desired breast reduction. Immediately following the procedure, the results will already be visible. Through your recovery process, incision lines will fade and operational-swelling will heal, allowing you to feel fully satisfied with the results of your new look.

Is Breast Reduction Surgery Right for Me?

Prior to seeking breast reduction surgery, it’s important to fully understand the risks and benefits associated with the procedure. You might be a good candidate for breast reduction surgery if:

  • You are in good physical health
  • You are a non-smoker or able to quit for 2 weeks before surgery and 4-6 weeks after surgery
  • You experience shoulder, back, or neck pain as a result of excess breast tissue
  • You have stretched skin, skin irritation, or enlarged areolas as a result of having large breasts
  • Your breasts hinder your physical activity
  • You have evaluated and understand the risks and benefits associated with breast reduction surgery

After Breast Reduction Surgery

Individual instructions will be given to the patient after undergoing breast reduction surgery. It’s important to understand the proper medications and treatment that must be administered in order to achieve an optimal healing process.

Although the recovery process may involve some bruising, swelling, and discomfort–the long-lasting benefits of breast reduction surgery can significantly improve one’s life, both mentally and physically. In order to make you as comfortable as possible, medications may be prescribed by Dr. Frenzel to accommodate your healing experience. After healing is complete, patients often report a feeling of relief as physical activity becomes easier and back/neck pain is often resolved. Another benefit patients report is that their appearance now resembles a more ‘normal’ female form.

Over Time, Fewer Botox Treatments May Be Needed

According to research recently conducted by a surgeon at OHSU, you may be able to decrease the frequency of your Botox treatments after 2 years, meaning you can still receive the same wrinkle-reducing results of Botox, but the overall cost will decrease.

In a study funded by Allergan Inc, Roger A. Dailey M.D. F.A.C.S. analyzed the results of 50 patients undergoing Botox injections for temporary correction of their glabellar lines. He concluded that after using Botox every four months for two years, the injection frequency could be extended to 6 months while still remaining effective.

In addition, his research indicates that Botox may have work as a preventive measure against wrinkles. You can read more details in the official online press release from the Oregon Health and Science University.

Mature Faces Turn to Less Invasive Procedures, Reports WSJ

Mature womand and man smilingThe Wall Street Journal online reports that older workers are increasingly considering minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures to help them look younger and stay competitive in the current economy.

Statistics compiled by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) show that for those in the 51-64 age range, the number of facelifts dropped from over 75,000 in 2008 to just under 55,000 in 2009. On the other hand, for this same age group, the number of Botox procedures jumped from 672,840 in 2008 to 734,751 in 2009.

“If you are a woman who has to come back to work full-time or a man who isn’t going to be able to retire any time soon, you’ve got to look like you can compete,” says Wendy Lewis, a New York–based plastic surgery and skin care consultant. “And if you are working in a field like media where everyone is really young, you don’t just want to look good for your age, you want to look good, period.”

Overall stats from ASAPS showed that the number of facelifts in the U.S. dropped 29 percent from 2008 and eyelid surgeries declined 23 percent during the same time frame. On the other hand, Botox and Dysport injections rose 3.8 percent from 2008 to 2009, with 2.6 million injections performed last year.

Less invasive procedures not only have less recovery time compared to surgery, but they also generally cost less than cosmetic surgical procedures. However, Lewis does point out that minimally-invasive treatments can be overdone. “There is a point at which you are going to have a better result and spend less money if you just have a facelift,” she says. In addition, there are some problems that can only be fixed by surgery, such as sagging jowls. A cosmetic surgeon can help select the best procedures to address a patient’s concerns.

Advanced Cosmetic Surgery offers a number of non-surgical procedures, including Juvederm, Radiesse, and CO2 Laser Resurfacing.

Lip Enhancement

Lip augmentation can be performed using special synthetic implants or injectable fillers. If you were born with thin lips, or if you’ve seen your lips flatten out over time, you may want to consider some type of lip augmentation.

Injectable Fillers for Lip Enhancement

The most popular method of lip augmentation these days uses hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane or Juvéderm. Cosmetic surgeons inject these agents into thin areas of the lips to add volume and create the plump appearance patients desire. Other agents that have been used for lip augmentation include collagen, natural fat, and liquid silicone. Patients appreciate lip enhancement with dermal fillers for the immediate results that often require no downtime.

Lip Enhancement Techniques

In lip augmentation, Dr. Frenzel will address the inner lip, the lipstick lines, and the outer mouth. The goal is to increase the ‘kissable’ area while reducing wrinkles around the mouth. Some patients may only need increased volume, while others can benefit from some additional reshaping and skin rejuvenation. Lip augmentation can be a very precise art; care must be taken to maintain the natural lines and borders of the lips.

Hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane, Juvederm) typically produce results that last 4-6 months, though some patients have reported results lasting longer. Minor bruising and swelling can occur, but will subside after a brief period of time.

Lip Implants

Other methods of lip augmentation use a synthetic (usually Silicone or Gore-Tex) implant that is surgically placed within the lips. This can be performed under local anesthesia. This may be an appropriate option for the patient who has grown tired of the temporary effects achieved with dermal fillers. For more information on the risks, benefits, and cost of lip augmentation, contact BodEvolve today.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Dr. Frenzel uses a carbon dioxide, i.e. CO2 laser to treat sun-damaged skin, fine wrinkles and scars in a procedure commonly called laser skin resurfacing. Our laser skin resurfacing procedures are performed here in our Arlington surgery office under local anesthesia and light iv sedation.

How the CO2 Laser Works

A Co2 laser produces a column of light that is capable of removing the top layers of damaged skin. Imperfections like scars, wrinkles, lines, and blemishes get removed along with the outer damaged skin layers.

CO2 lasers are commonly used to treat conditions like the following:

  • Fine wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Age spots/sun spots
  • Lines around the mouth
  • Lines around the eyes
  • Some precancerous skin growths

The CO2 laser emits bursts of energy that vaporize or ‘ablate’ the skin cells in a precise, uniform manner asDr. Frenzel applies it to your skin. The precision of the laser, as it penetrates to a controlled depth, allows for a safe procedure with a predictable result.

Who Can Benefit from Laser Treatment?

During a consultation, we can determine if you are a candidate for laser skin resurfacing by evaluating your skin imperfections, thickness, texture, and type. This procedure is typically considered as an excellent alternative to chemical peels or dermabrasion. The CO2 laser is the gold standard for skin resurfacing and In most cases, only one treatment is needed.

After CO2 Laser Treatment

Redness is common afterward, but should quickly fade to a light pink, which can be concealed with makeup. The pink discoloration should fully disappear in 1-3 months. The ultimate goal of CO2 laser resurfacing is to improve your complexion. Patients should expect relatively modest improvements, rather than a complete correction of sun damage or wrinkles. The success of this treatment will largely depend on the patient’s skin condition and the severity of the treated imperfections. Most of our patients have been very satisfied with the results.

Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure

It is no secret–the buttocks are an important physical, sexual characteristic. The body may appear out of balance, when the projection of a person’s buttocks is lacking or asymmetrical. To enhance the overall appeal of the body and the butt, Dr. Frenzel performs the Brazilian Butt Lift, a procedure that uses your own body fat to augment the projection of the buttocks.

The Brazilian Butt Lift Technique

The procedure uses liposuction and lipo-injection techniques that add a significant volume of body fat into areas that need enhancement. When the Brazilian Butt Lift is performed properly, it can produce an impressive, natural aesthetic improvement.

Dr. Frenzel performs liposuction first on the patient’s stomach, thighs, or hips. After the harvested fat is purified, he uses it to administer a series of lipo-injections on the buttocks. This process can be done in one day or it may require multiple visits and procedures.

As the fat added to the buttocks is from a more supple body area–you’ll exhibit a fuller, more appealing rear end as well as an improvement in your overall silhouette.

Added benefits of the Brazilian butt lift include increased cushioning and the elimination of fat deposits through liposuction. An experienced surgeon is crucial to this method because the survival of fat isn’t guaranteed and the results must be carefully monitored.

After Your Brazilian Butt Lift

Recovery may involve some bruising and discomfort. A compression garment may be required to ensure the best possible result. If you’re interested in learning more about the risks, benefits, or cost of a Brazilian butt lift, contact the office of Dr. Clayton Frenzel today for a private one on one consultation.

Can a Makeover Enhance Your Job Prospects?

dallas job seekingIn Dallas, we’re all cautiously optimistic about the economic news of recent weeks. Nonetheless, the job market still represents a challenge for the many Americans pounding pavement trying to land that new career. Some of our patients have shared their suspicion that age has negatively affected their job prospects to some extent.

While we don’t endorse ageism, prejudice/discrimination based on a person’s age, you’d be naive to think it doesn’t play a role in the general public’s perception.  Consider how it hindered John McCain in last year’s election.

If you’re seeking a new career, you’re probably in competition with young adults fresh out of college, who often accept a much lower wage. You might need a slight makeover to present yourself in the best possible light: If your hairstyle is dull and outdated, see your stylist; if wrinkles are detracting from your facial appearance, see a cosmetic surgeon.

Many Americans are using some of their extra time to get a little touch up, with injectables like Botox, a wrinkle filler, or even eyelid surgery. Botox is by far the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure, with millions of treatments performed each year. The cost of a single treatment will vary, and it pays to keep an eye out for monthly specials and events.

If you are going for treatments prior to a job interview, give yourself at least 7 days to heal and let the treatment take effect. Remember, doing well on an interview is not only about how you look, but whether you exude confidence about yourself and your ability to do the job.
