Tucked away nicely, no one will be able to notice any markings. And finally, the axillary incision is made in the armpit area. Close to the boobs, but far enough away for any markings to go unnoticed, this incision keeps recovery at the top of the chest.

Antioxidants May Promote Healing After Surgery

In a recent clinical study out of Brazil, physicians asked 60 women to significantly increase their intake of fruits and vegetables during recovery from abdominal cosmetic surgery. Their findings reveal some promising potential benefits of an antioxidant-rich diet, not just after cosmetic surgery, but also for treatment of inflammatory conditions.

The authors hypothesized that a diet rich in fruits and veggies would produce an anti-inflammatory response in the participants. In this case, they decided to examine the relationship between fruit and vegetable consumption and levels of C-reactive protein, a common marker of inflammation and infection.

The participants were interviewed the first day after elective cosmetic surgery. They started the experimental diet on the third day and doctors followed their progress for one more month. They explain the post-operative diet as follows:

“Six servings each of fruits and vegetables, reflecting a diet rich in such foodstuffs, were advised. Seven easy and convenient recipes were developed by the team with the objective of improving palatability and intake.”

Results of the study showed that both the control group and the dieting group experienced a reduction in C-reactive protein, but according to the study authors, “a more expressive decrease could be demonstrated for the high fruit and vegetable participants.”

Although the authors caution against making any hasty conclusions, they do suggest some interesting benefits based on the findings. In particular, they argue that fruits and vegetables are safe, tolerable and inexpensive. They also mention a “synergistic” effectiveness associated with good nutrition.

Cosmetic Surgeries for Post-Bariatric Patients

Losing weight and keeping it off is a huge accomplishment. Many of our cosmetic surgery patients are in the post-bariatric stage –have undergone bariatric surgery, lost weight, and kept it off. Even after incredible weight loss, many patients still have loose skin that affects their confidence and appearance.

Dr. Frenzel has dual fellowship training in bariatric surgery and cosmetic plastic surgery. He helps men and women across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and beyond, to not only reclaim their physical health, but feel good about their body and their future.

If you have loose skin that’s dragging you down, consider the benefits of cosmetic surgery. From loose skin around the arms and abdomens, to sagging breasts, on both men and women, there are certain areas of the body that are more prone to loose skin after weight loss.

The arm lift surgery, brachioplasty, is when Dr. Frenzel removes excess skin and fat around the arms, while simultaneously improving the tone and proportion of the arms. If you avoid wearing short sleeve shirts because you’re self-conscious about showing your arms, let us help you gain the confidence you deserve.

With tighter, skinnier arms, even small tasks like waving goodbye are an achievement and motivator.

During the arm lift procedure, Dr. Frenzel makes an incision on the inner part of the arm that extends from the inner elbow into the armpit and chest. Dr. Frenzel will discuss your specific incision needs during a consultation. Anesthesia, general or intravenous sedation, is administered, and the fatty tissue in the arm is removed through liposuction. The remaining skin is pulled tight and sutured together.

Another popular post-bariatric cosmetic surgery is the tummy tuck. Stomach fat is incredibly stubborn. Even after weight loss surgery, it’s not uncommon for patients to fight their belly fat and excess skin around the abdomen. An abdominoplasty, tummy tuck, is the perfect solution for post-bariatric male and female patients who have loose skin in the abdomen.

During the full abdominoplasty, the muscle structure is tightened and excess skin is removed from the upper and lower abdomen. An incision is made in the mid to lower abdomen under the belly button area. Then the skin is lifted to the rib cage area.

This procedure leaves patients with a tight, wrinkle-free stomach. Many patients who have gone through this procedure notice a completely new appreciation for life—having the confidence to display their stomach, to not have to fight their belly when buttoning pants, is a true self-confidence booster.

Breast augmentation is the final touch for women who have lost weight and kept it off. When women undergo bariatric surgery, the breasts are one of the first areas of the body to lose the weight. As a result, women are often frustrated with the sagging breast tissue that remains.

Breast augmentation can transform your confidence, give you a beautiful, curvy silhouette, and boost your self-esteem to a level unimaginable. Transform your body and transform your mind with post-bariatric cosmetic plastic surgery.

Finding the Resolve to Live Healthy

Each year, many Americans resolve to live a healthier lifestyle. But as the month of January progresses, many of these Americans are tempted by the endless row of fast food chains and the ease of a sedentary lifestyle. It’s completely understandable. But, it doesn’t have to be you.

We want our patients to understand the value of living healthy. From eating right to staying active, living healthy has the potential to add many years to your life. Here are some tips to keeping your resolve this year.

Plan ahead.

It’s much easier to lose sight of your goals when you haven’t invested time or energy in them. Choose a day of the week to dedicate some time to planning and preparing for your meals for the week. Invest in portion control plastic ware to keep you accountable to how much you eat.

Meal planning is an incredible and free resource for you to keep your resolve. When you plan out your weekly meals, you’ll be apt to opt out of last minute snacks and stops for food.

Stick to your plan.

It’s easy to sit down and make a weekly meal plan. It’s not as easy to stay committed to this chart. A great tip is to meal prep. After you plan out your meals, go to the grocery store and get everything you’ll need for the week. Go home and cook your meals. Weekends are the best days so that you can really dedicate some time to getting all of this done and ready for the work week.

If you know you’ll want to eat out at least once a week, make that part of your plan. You can account for different scenarios, but it’s so helpful to make a plan and stick to it. It not only helps you eat better, but it makes you feel accomplished. The confidence you’ll gain from this routine is incredible.

Add in physical activity.

You’re eating right, so you can skip the gym, right? Wrong. While your physical activity doesn’t have to come in the form of a gym, it is important to add in exercise. Whether that’s walking around your office building after lunch or spending time with the kids after school, it’s important to get your blood pumping and your body moving.

A sedentary lifestyle is an unhealthy lifestyle. You can eat great and see benefits from that alone, but when you add in physical activity, you’ll see even better results. Find fun activities for the whole family. Or set out a block of time just for you. Go running, walking, cycling, rowing, rock climbing, take a yoga class, dance class, or any other activity that helps you stay active.

When you invest in the planning and prepping, you’re more likely to stay on track. Resolve to make this year a healthy and happy one.

Abdominoplasty Procedures and Recovery

An abdominoplasty is commonly referred to as a tummy tuck.  This procedure is designed to tighten the abdomen by removing loose skin, wrinkles, or stretch marks.  There are three sub- categories under the abdominoplasty category—the mini tummy-tuck, the full tummy-tuck, and the endoscopic abdominal muscle tightening.

The mini tummy tuck is designed to remove excess skin from below the belly button.  Dr. Frenzel makes a crescent type incision just above the pubic hairline, keeping the belly button unaltered.  In addition, the muscles can be tightened in the lower abdomen.

A full abdominoplasty removes excess skin from the upper and lower abdomen as well as tightening the muscle structure.  The incision location is the mid or lower abdomen under the belly button area.  For this procedure, the skin is lifted up to the rib cage area.  In addition, another small incision is made around the belly button itself so that it is free from the rest of the skin to be brought through another place on the abdomen.  This step is necessary because the upper skin is pulled downward, tightened, and repositioned.  Any excess skin is trimmed away and the abdomen is stitched back together with the lower skin.

During an edoscopic abdominal muscle tighten, the muscle structure is tightened.  Candidates for this procedure are those who do not have excess loose skin, but have a pouch in their abdomen.  For this procedure, a small incision is made in the belly button, an endoscope is inserted so Dr. Frenzel can see the muscles through a special monitor, then the muscles are tightened with sutures.

Each of these procedures is designed to remove excess fat and tighten muscles.  In most cases, excess fat lies between the muscles and the skin is suctioned off with liposuction either before or along with the tummy tuck.

After a tummy tuck, patients are required to wear a firm compression support garment for about a month to six weeks.  The effect of this garment is to achieve maximum shrinkage as well as a smoother appearance.  Because of this, physical activities are limited.

The result of a tummy tuck is the removal of fatty bulk, which allows the area to appear smoother, flatter, and, thus, more pleasing in appearance.  If you have excess skin, fatty deposits, and weak abdominal muscles resulting from weight gain during pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or hereditary causes, contact Dr. Frenzel today for a consultation.

During your meeting, Dr. Frenzel will go over all of the different procedures and options for your body.  At this time, you can voice any concerns, ask any questions, and get feedback.  Dr. Frenzel and his staff at Advanced Bariatric Surgery are ready to help you achieve maximum results.  Not only does the tummy tuck affect your body, but you will notice a drastic difference in your self-confidence.  Wear your clothes with confidence.  With the help of Dr. Frenzel, you get a tight, smooth abdomen.
