Abdominoplasty

An abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is performed on individuals who have loose skin, wrinkles, or stretch marks in the abdominal area. The muscles of the abdomen may or may not need to be tightened at the same time as excess skin is removed.

In many cases, excess fat that lies between the muscles and the skin is suctioned out with liposuction either before or along with the tummy tuck. This rids the abdomen of fatty bulk and allows the area to appear smoother, flatter, and thus, more pleasing in appearance.

Excess skin, fatty deposits, and weak abdominal muscles can result from weight gain during pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or hereditary causes.

There are three subcategories of abdominoplasty:

  • The mini tummy tuck
  • The full tummy tuck
  • Endoscopic abdominal muscle tightening

Full Abdominoplasty

A full abdominoplasty tightens the muscle structure and removes excess skin from the upper and the lower abdomen. An incision is made in the mid/lower abdomen under the belly button area, and the skin is then lifted up to the rib cage area.

Another small incision is made around the belly button itself so it can be freed from the rest of the skin and brought out through another place on the abdomen as the upper skin is pulled downward, tightened, and repositioned. Excess skin is trimmed away, and the area is stitched together with the lower skin.

Mini Abdominoplasty

A mini abdominoplasty removes excess skin from below the umbilicus or belly button. A ‘crescent’ type incision is placed just above or at the pubic hairline. The belly button usually remains unaltered. Muscles can also be tightened in the lower abdomen.

Endoscopic Abdominal Muscle Tightening

Occasionally people have a ‘pouchy’ muscle wall, due to heredity or loss of muscle tone, but they do not have excess loose skin. In these cases, a minimally invasive procedure is used to tighten the muscle structure. A tiny incision is made in the umbilicus or supra-pubic hairline, and a small endoscope is inserted so the surgeon can view the muscles through a special monitor and then tighten them with sutures.

After Abdominoplasty

The patient is required to wear a firm compression support garment for a month to six weeks to achieve maximum shrinkage and a smoother appearance. Physical activities will also be limited.

For more information on the risks, benefits, or cost of tummy tuck surgery, contact the Dallas/Fort Worth surgery office of Dr. Clayton Frenzel.

Arm Lift Surgery

Brachioplasty, better known as an Arm Lift, is a surgical procedure that can take off excess skin and fat while improving the tone and proportion of your arms. Aging and weight fluctuations can leave a person with upper arms that are noticeably ‘loose’ and sagging, often leading to feelings of embarrassment and a tendency to hide the upper arms. This is a very common complaint of patients that have lost large amounts of weight. Many of these patients avoid wearing short sleeve shirts to avoid exposing their arms. Through arm lift surgery, many patients have been able to correct this problem and realize the benefits of a more sleek and toned appearance of their arms. If you are looking for a solution to your arm insecurities, an arm lift can give you the perfect confidence boost.

With tighter, skinnier arms, you will notice the freedom you have to accomplish the smallest tasks, like lifting your arm or waving at someone. Whatever activities you had in the past felt held back from, when you get arm lift surgery, you receive the confidence and the appearance you need to display and use your arms to their fullest potential.

Arm Lift Procedures

An arm lift reduces excess skin and fat between the underarm and the elbow. When performing arm lift surgery, Dr. Frenzel makes an incision on the inner part of the arm that extends from the inner elbow and into the armpit and chest. In some cases, a more limited incision is appropriate. The size and shape of the incision is determined by Dr. Frenzel. The surgery begins with anesthesia, either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. After making the incision, Dr. Frenzel removes fatty tissue through liposuction, carefully trims away excess skin, and pulls the remaining skin tight before the arm is sutured together.

The main drawback of arm lift surgery is the scars that may result, which is an important aspect of the procedure for patients to understand. Placed on the inside of the arm, visibility of the incision is limited. Scars do fade and flatten out over time, but they are permanent. A patient who truly benefits from the surgery will usually accept the scars in order to attain more attractive arms overall.  It is important to voice all of your concerns and desires for your incision during your consultation.

After Arm Lift Surgery

Recovery time is about two weeks, during which patients will (at least initially) need to keep their arms elevated and avoid repetitive activity. An elastic compression garment will be necessary as well. Oral pain medications are provided to alleviate postoperative discomfort. Some of the risks involved in arm lift surgery include scarring from the incision points, bleeding, infection, poor wound healing, skin loss, blood clots, damage to deeper structures such as nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and lungs, persistent pain, and the possibility of revisional surgery. Dr. Frenzel will discuss fully all of the risks and safety information in detail.

Dr. Frenzel and the staff at BodEvolve promise to be open with you. With a clear understanding of how the arm lift procedure works, you can make an educated decision about what is right for you. For more information on the risks, benefits, or cost of an arm lift, contact the office of Dr. Frenzel for a one on one personal consultation.

Chemical Peel Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedure

In addition to the numerous cosmetic plastic surgeries available from Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Frenzel offers non-surgical cosmetic procedures to ensure that patients look and feel their best.

The chemical peel is one of the more popular skin rejuvenation treatments available.  This procedure is designed to correct blemishes, fine wrinkles, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation.

To provide patients with a solution that meets their skin’s exact needs, chemical peels are now available in different formulations.

If you struggle with confidence because of blemishes on your skin from aging, sun damage, etc., allow Dr. Frenzel to quickly correct your skin and help you achieve the self-image you want.

The chemical peel works by exfoliating layers of dead cells.  Then, the dead layers are replaced by healthier cells.  This process allows your skin’s natural clarity and tightness to resurface.

Dr. Frenzel will work with you to determine with formulation is best for your skin type.  Choose between light peels and deep peels.  While the formulations vary, some of the most common ones include TCA—Trichloracetic Acid, Phenol, Pyruvic acid, Glycolic acid, Alpha-hydroxy acid, and Jessner’s solutions.

These formulas work to leave your skin refreshed and free of uneven pigmentation.

Once a formulation has been created for your skin, you can schedule your procedure.  During the procedure, your skin will be gently cleansed with alcohol followed by acetone.  Then, the solution is applied, using a cotton application, to your skin in a uniform manner.  The solution is left to penetrate for a specific period of time.  This initial application may sting for a short period of time before you adjust to it.

A chemical peel removes the outermost damaged layer of skin, leaving the smoother skin apparent, creating a glowing complexion and minimizing the appearance of fine lines.

After the chemical peel, you may notice flaking, redness, and crusting.  This is all a normal stage of the process.  After one week, the new skin will emerge.  When the healing time is complete, you will see a fresh glowing complexion.

Designed to give patients confidence in their natural beauty, the chemical peel is customizable to meet each patient’s exact needs.  Allow Dr. Frenzel and his qualified staff help you gain the confidence you want and the glowing complexion you’ve always dreamed of.

Benefits of a Vegetarian Diet

Getting the perfect balance of sodium, cholesterol, protein, and other nutrients your body requires for a healthy lifestyle is essential.  If you are a vegetarian, it’s important to eat enough protein for a completely balanced diet.  Here are some of the best protein foods that will keep your pallet completely satisfied.

As alternatives to meat, here are some examples of high-protein, non-soy foods for vegetarians.  In fact, even if you eat meat, you’ll enjoy this list.

The first food on the list is Seitan.  Contrary to popular belief, this food is a non-soy product.  If you like wheat, you’ll love the taste of Seitan.  And, for the best part, it’s incredibly healthy.  With a similar texture to that of meat, this “wheat-meat” is filling and healthy.

Regardless of the food you eat, portion control is essential.  Watching your servings helps you to better monitor the nutrients that you intake.  Without obsessing over each meal, which may or may not be such a bad thing, make sure you calculate your calories and monitor your nutritional values.  Not knowing how much sodium is in a hardly-filling snack could be detrimental to your health.

When eating Seitan, a good, hearty portion size is about four ounces.  This is plenty to fill you up and give you enough protein to keep you strong and active.  In fact, a four-ounce portion contains about 25 grams of protein.  The nutritional values for this wheat-filled food are incredible.

If you’ve ever been told to eat your vegetables, you know that this next high protein food is not only tasty, but it’s incredible for your health.  Broccoli is a great vegetable for vegetarians looking for a completely nutritious meal.  While you might not have known just how high in protein this green veggie is, you’ll love to know that it’s right up there with spinach on the health scale.  Per cooked cut, broccoli has five grams of protein.

Looking for your fill of grains?  Then you need quinoa.  This incredible seed isn’t technically a grain, but it has a reputation for being a super-grain.  With 11 grams of protein per cup, you’ll love the taste, texture, and nutritional value of this food.  When cooking quinoa it’s important to rinse well because it has a bitter coating.  Similar to rice, quinoa is high in protein and gluten-free.

To have a completely nutritious meal, it’s important to look at your intake.  Whether you’re restricted by health concerns or simply want to monitor your meals, the fact that you are interested in nutritional values is wonderful.  To have a healthy and balanced diet as a vegetarian, it’s important to look for high protein meals.

For picky eater, there is one go-to food to ensure you get a balanced meal—beans.  From black beans to lentils, beans are almost always associated with a vegetarian diet.  With almost 15 grams of protein in a cooked cup of every starchy bean, you’ll love the healthy effects of eating naturally grown, healthy foods.

What to Expect After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation surgery yields lasting results.  From self-confidence to a more shapely physique, you can go into your surgery knowing the recovery is worth-while.  After you have gone through breast augmentation surgery, you’ll go through a recover time for several weeks.  During this stage, you’ll experience some side-effects.  If you’re interested in learning about the recovery process, here are all the details.

Once the breast augmentation surgery is complete, you will enter into the recovery stage.  This process is important for your health and healing.  During the first few days you will experience fatigue and soreness.  Making sure you have enough time to rest is crucial.  Sleep on your back, when possible, to ensure your surgical wounds can breathe and heal properly.

With big changes come big responsibilities.  During the first few days of recovery, you might experience tightening in your breast area.  This is due to the skin adjusting to your new breast size and your breast implants.  Adapting to this new addition will be a natural progression, so give your skin time to properly adjust.  While you skin is getting used to your new breast implants, exercises such as a breast massage will alleviate any discomfort and speed the recovery process.

During the first few days after surgery, you might need to wear a postoperative bra, a jogging bra, or a compression bandage for extra support.  Within days after the procedure, you should be able to return to work.

After the first week, you will still be recovering; however, you will feel significantly better.  During the weeks that follow your initial recovery, there are some guidelines you should follow to ensure you continue to heal well.  Avoid any strenuous activities that cause your pulse and blood pressure to rise as well as activities that use your arms and chest.  Keeping your arms and chest free from activity will allow your breasts and the surrounding areas to heal quickly and properly.

While you are healing, you should expect to see changes in your upper body.  Your breasts can remain swollen and sensitive for a month or longer.  Do not be alarmed if, after a month, your breasts are still swollen.  Each individual will go through a unique healing process.  Allow the time necessary for your body to properly heal.  However, if you notice swelling or redness in your implanted breasts, you should contact Dr. Frenzel.  Likewise, Dr. Frenzel can answer any questions you might have about what to expect after your breast augmentation surgery in an initial consultation.

Set up a consultation today to speak with Dr. Frenzel, board certified in Surgery and fellowship trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.  With an experienced surgeon, you can rest assure that you are in good hands.  Allow the staff at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery to welcome you into the family.  Begin your process to a new you and schedule your initial consultation to speak with Dr. Frenzel.  Share your questions, thoughts, and concerns, and learn more about breast augmentation surgery.

Incision options available for a breast augmentation

When you decide on breast augmentation, there are several components to consider.  From the size of the implants to the location of incision, every aspect of breast augmentation surgery is important to examine.  A consultation with Dr. Frenzel can help you understand all of your options.  There are four incision options available with a breast augmentation, including the umbilical, peri-areolar, inframammary, and axillary.

If you are looking to correct a disproportionate figure, restore your breasts, improve the shape and size of your breasts, or improve your self-image, breast augmentation is the perfect solution.  Once you have determined that getting a breast augmentation is right for you, it is necessary to determine how to proceed with the surgery to achieve the look you want.

The four incision options allow you to hide your scars in the place you decide upon.  The umbilical incision is a small, hidden incision made in the navel.  An incision through the navel allows you to avoid scarring on or around your breasts.  Keeping your breasts, chest, and underarms free from scarring, the umbilical incision is a great options for those wanting to avoid upper body incision markings.

The peri-areolar incision is a curved incision made at the outer border of the colored portion of the areola.  The peri-areolar incision is the perfect solution for those looking to keep the incision marking closest to the point of surgery, the breasts.

The inframammary incision is a three to four centimeter incision made in the fold of the breast.  Keeping the incision lower on the breast, hidden in the fold, this incision marking is great for women looking to keep the incision point close to the breast, but not visible.  The inframammary and peri-areolar incisions keep incision on the breast, avoid soreness to other areas of the body.

The axillary incision is made in the armpit area.  This incision is great for those looking to avoid noticeable incision marking on the front of their body.  Keeping incisions under the armpits, the axillary incision is hidden, yet close to the breasts.

Breast augmentation is a great solution for improving subtle changes from aging and gravity, restoring breasts to a more pleasing size due to changes in the breast size from pregnancy, breast feeding, or significant weight loss, and correcting an inherited deformity, where one breast does not develop like the other.

A consultation with Dr. Frenzel is a crucial part of the breast augmentation process.  He will list each of the four incision options available for your breast augmentation, as well as thoroughly discuss each one to provide you with an understanding of the recovery for each option.

Whether you choose an umbilical incision, peri-areolar incision, inframammary incision, or axillary incision, Dr. Frenzel will perform your breast augmentation to provide you with a minimally invasive procedure.  Giving you beautifully constructed breasts and little scarring, you can rest assure that at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, you’ll receive plenty of information to make an informed decision about your incision options.

Effective Workouts During the Lunch Hour

If you have a desk job, you understand the beauty of the lunch hour. Sitting for an extended period of time can actually be quite exhausting—despite popular belief. Thankfully, you can get in a great workout during your lunch hour to refuel for the afternoon and keep your energy up. Try these effective workouts during your lunch hour and watch as your body and behavior begins to shift.

Sitting down for most of your day can shut off enzymes in your muscles. This means that burning fat becomes extremely difficult. So after sitting during the morning, use your lunch hour to get in a quick and efficient workout that has proven results.

Burning calories and trimming down doesn’t require hours of cardio and machines. Use your lunch hour to get fit without having to wait for a machine to open up. This exercise program is designed to be effective and fast.

Hit the gym during your lunch hour and get ready for a workout that doesn’t waste any time. Instead of waiting for your favorite machine to open up, you can use free weights to achieve the same results. One workout option focuses on cardio.

Ten minutes on a treadmill, elliptical, or stair climber can make a drastic difference in your workout. Begin at a predetermined level of speed and each minute change it up a bit. Try going faster and slowing back down, then even faster and back to your original speed. By changing up the speed, your body starts burning fat and is prepared for muscular fitness exercises.

Once your blood is pumping, grab some dumbbells and hit the bench. With a dumbbell in each hand, lay down with your back on the bench and reach your hands and legs toward the ceiling.  Then, bend your elbows 90 degrees to the side and lower your legs to a 45 degree angle. Do 15 repetitions of this and you’ll feel the burn in your chest, triceps, and abdominal muscles.

Without having to wait for the next machine, simply take your dumbbells and find an empty wall. Do 15 repetitions of wall squats, holding a dumbbell in each hand, extended in front of your chest.

This next exercise doesn’t require any weights or machines. A lateral lunge will tone your hips, buttocks, quads, hamstrings, and calves! That’s a lot of muscles in one exercise. Start by standing with your hands on your hips. Bend one knee out to the coordinating side to form the tree pose. Then, step out into a side lunch. Finally, return to the tree pose. After 10 reps of this movement, switch legs.

There are many more exercises you can try during your lunch break to stay active and healthy. Make sure you accompany this workout with a healthy meal. Whenever you work out, have healthy nutrients in your body. This will keep you safe and improve your results.

It’s important to understand the recovery of surgery.   Dr. Frenzel can discuss all of the details of the breast reduction surgery with you during your consultation.  After the procedure, you will be able to visibly see the results.  While you will notice incision lines and swelling, during your recovery this will all fade and you will see the results more clearly.

To achieve the optimal success of reduction surgery, you will need to become familiar with the proper treatment.  Again, you will see bruising and swelling and you will feel slight discomfort, but after the recovery process, you can rest assure that you will be pleased with the results.  Being freed from back pain, neck pain, and the lack of confidence will give you a fresh start.  In order to make your recovery as comfortable as possible, Dr. Frenzel may prescribe medications for you to accommodate your healing process.

Once your time of recovery is complete, you can resume physical activity.  Upon recovery, you will notice the drastic changes in your body.  With more freedom, patients often report a feeling of relief, as physical activity becomes easier and back and neck pain is usually resolved.  With a new appearance, a more comfortable body, and incredible confidence, breast reduction surgery is a great choice for those who are struggling with excessively large breasts and shoulder pain.  With Dr. Frenzel on your side, you’ll love the results of your procedure.

Botox Cosmetic Procedure Reduces Facial Lines

Many cosmetic patients are turning to the Botox cosmetic procedure to reduce facial lines and the look of aging.  Botox has been used on celebrities and other patients for many years to reduce aging signs such as forehead furrows, glabellar lines, and facial wrinkles.  If you are unhappy with the appearance of your face due to crow’s feet or frown lines, consider the benefits of Botox.

Dr. Frenzel is a dual fellowship trained surgeon with experience in a wide range of cosmetic procedures.  In addition to surgical procedures, he also works with patients on non-surgical cosmetics such as Botox.  Botox is available from Advanced Cosmetic Surgery at an affordable rate.  And the best part—there’s no need to take any time off.

Busy schedules are understandable.  When patients are looking for a quick fix for their facial wrinkles and lines, Botox is the perfect solution.  The entire process is only ten minutes and there is no recovery time necessary.

Botox cosmetic treatments are simple.  Patients have reported their amazement at how ten minutes can drastically transform their face.  Take time out of your lunch break, schedule a treatment before work, and take advantage of the benefits of Botox.

Due to gravity, aging, and other natural factors, over time, lines and wrinkles appear on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and near the mouth.  Botox is used to correct these lines and leave the face smooth and youthful.

While surgery is invasive and requires time off work for the procedure and recovery, Botox is fast and minimally invasive.  Directly after the treatment, patients are free to continue their daily routines and return to work.  It is important to note, however, that results are not instantaneous.  It may take a couple of days for all of the facial wrinkles to relax and flatten.

During the procedure, patients may experience minimal discomfort.  Local anesthetic cream or ice can be used to assist in avoiding discomfort.  However, once the injection is complete, no discomfort should be expected.

Once patients have a basic understanding of what Botox is and how it affects the body, they are typically open to trying it out.  Botox is an agent that relaxed the muscle, working at the motor nerve endings.  Because it is temporary, the Botox treatment can be complete more than once.  The most basic purpose of Botox is to relax facial muscles, which reduces lines on the face and gives a youthful, smooth appearance.

PMF is also used with bone fusion and wound therapy. Venus Legacy™ uses magnetic fields to help regenerate the tissues and expedite healing by causing an increased production in new blood vessels and collagen.

Superior Technologies Working Together

  • RF delivers focused heat, faster than other treatments, to various tissue depths targeting and disabling fat cells while also stimulating the growth of new collagen
  • Magnetic fields accelerates the healing and rejuvenation process by increasing blood flow and cellular nourishment, which helps in slowing down aging
